What will it cost?

The cost of registering a design depends on factors such as the nature of the design, whether you want to protect several related designs and whether the Patent Office raise objections against your application.

However as a rough figure, you can expect to pay about £500 + VAT to obtain a UK registration.  A European Community design registration might cost about £1,000 + VAT.  Registrations in other countries tend to be more expensive – we can provide you with cost indications for individual cases.

Design registrations are generally much quicker to obtain than patents.  A straightforward UK or Community design application can go through in 3 to 4 months, sometimes less.
