Carol Greaves Partner
Carol established her own practice, the fore-runner to Greaves Brewster LLP, in 1997.

A Chartered UK Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney, with over twenty years’ experience from both private practice and industry, Carol has a BSc honours degree in chemistry from Nottingham University. She has developed considerable chemical and biochemical expertise through work with major pharmaceutical and agrochemical companies.

Carol has prosecuted patent applications in many countries of the world, and has also been involved in patent litigation and European patent oppositions. She has particular experience in the fields of pharmaceuticals, immunology, plant protection & genetics and diagnostics (including PCR), and has worked for a range of clients including biotechnology start-up companies, government research establishments and universities. Carol is well equipped to advise you on the legal and business implications of your intellectual property rights.

Andrea Brewster Partner
Andrea is a Chartered UK Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney with an honours degree in natural sciences from Cambridge University. She joined Carol in 1999 after eleven years in private practice.

She has worked in a variety of chemical fields including pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, detergents, petrochemicals and fluid phase chemical processing. She also handles mechanical patents.

Advising a variety of different clients, from university spin-out to plc, has given Andrea insight into a range of commercial intellectual property needs. She has a keen interest in the strategic aspects of IP portfolio management, and works closely with all members of a corporate team to achieve a high value commercial result.

Andrea has lectured on European patent law to international audiences, and helps to run conferences on the patent system for industrial chemists.

Jacqueline Evans Partner
Working mainly from our Monmouth office, Jacqui moved to our firm in January 2003 from a large corporate environment.

Jacqui is a Chartered UK Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney with an honours degree in chemistry from Oxford University. Before joining the firm she had worked as an in-house patent attorney for several multinational companies, specialising in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and food technology. Her experience includes UK and overseas patent prosecution, European Patent Office hearings and international patent litigation.

Her work in industry has allowed Jacqui to pursue the development and protection of intellectual property rights within the wider commercial context, from the initial evaluation and protection of new R&D to the exploitation and enforcement of the resulting patents.

Mary Yeadon
A Chartered UK Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney with an honours degree in chemistry from Oxford University, Mary has wide and varied patent experience covering pharmaceuticals, consumer health, medical equipment and prostheses, resins and adhesives, packaging and general mechanical fields. She has represented clients not only before the UK and European Patent Offices but also in patent, copyright and design right litigation in the UK courts. In the past Mary has worked in both industry and private practice; she now works part-time for Greaves Brewster LLP.

Michael Elliott
Michael is a Registered UK Trade Mark Attorney and European Trade Mark Attorney. With over twenty years' experience of private practice trade mark work, he has acted for both UK and overseas clients in a number of business sectors ranging from banking, engineering and plastics manufacturing to drinks, leisure and retail.

Michael has a good knowledge of the south west of England, having practised in Plymouth during the late eighties and early nineties.  He returned to the region to join Greaves Brewster LLP in August 2006, and is now keen to develop closer links with local businesses as well as with our wider UK and overseas contacts.

Emma Leland
Initially trained as a UK Patent Office examiner, Emma then qualified as a Chartered UK Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney.  She also holds a BA honours degree in natural sciences from Cambridge University.

Before joining Greaves Brewster LLP in June 2008, Emma was a Group IP Manager within a company specialising in the development of scientific instruments and other precision measurement equipment.  Her experience in industry, together with her insider knowledge of the UK Patent Office (now the UK IP Office) examination system, means that she is well placed to help clients obtain the best possible protection for their technology, and to assist in shaping patent portfolios to complement business plans.

Erica Dutton
Erica Dutton, our electronics consultant, is not only a Chartered UK Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney but also a qualified Australian Patent Attorney.  She has worked extensively in both private practice and industry, and has held senior management positions in a major communications organisation. Her particular areas of expertise include communications, broadcasting, information processing, artificial intelligence, optoelectronics and medical physics.

Emma works part-time with us, as a secretary and receptionist, in particular providing secretarial support to Emma Leland and to our records and administration department.  As well as experience in other legal secretarial posts, Emma taught autistic children for several years before joining Greaves Brewster LLP in August 2007.

Originally an English graduate, Colville joined our firm in 1998 and now handles our accounts and human resources.  He also oversees our IT and communications systems and manages our office administration.

Sheila Hurst
Sheila joined us as a highly experienced patent secretary, having worked in this capacity for several years with a large firm of patent attorneys in Bristol.  Her expertise covers patent, trade mark and design formalities.  In May 2006 she was awarded the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) Certificate in Patent Administration.

Sheila now acts as PA to our senior partner Carol Greaves, including the handling of formalities for domestic and overseas patent applications.  She also helps to operate our computerised intellectual property management and records system.

Tony Judd
Tony is an experienced patent administrator, who joined our records and administration department in June 2008.  He holds the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) Certificate in Patent Administration, and has worked in patent records departments both in a private practice patent agency and in-house within a large technology solutions provider.  Tony has a keen interest in the IT aspects of his work, and also has qualifications in book keeping, accounting and IP paralegal work, as well as experience in an RAF personnel department.

In July 2007 Sue joined our Cheddar office as secretary to Andrea Brewster; she now provides support for Mary Yeadon as well.  She has worked in several different fields in both the public and private sectors, holding both accounting and PA/secretarial positions.  Most recently she worked for eleven years as secretary to the headmaster of a local primary school.

Jean joined Greaves Brewster LLP in May 2008 as secretary to Mike Elliott in our trade mark department.  She has lived and worked in Cheddar since relocating from Kent in 1991, and has previously worked as a secretary and PA in both insurance and accountancy practices.

Following a degree in illustration and six months travelling the world, Rebecca joined our records and administration department as a trainee patent administrator in September 2006.  She has since gained experience of the formalities procedures necessary to file and pursue patent, trade mark and design applications.  In May 2008 she was awarded the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) Certificate in Patent Administration.

Anita joined our Monmouth office in April 2008 to provide secretarial support for Jacqui Evans.  Since gaining her secretarial qualifications Anita has worked in a variety of administrative support roles, ranging from personal assistant for private sector professionals to Planning Services Support Officer and then Administration Services Manager in a local government planning division.
