Jade Powell

Director | Patent Attorney

Jade joined Greaves Brewster LLP as a Patent Attorney in 2018, after training for four years with another private practice firm. She has a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Nottingham, where her research focused on the biomimetic synthesis and biophysical investigation of complex natural products. She previously obtained a first class MChem degree in chemistry from the University of Oxford.

Jade’s background in organic chemistry means she is well placed to handle subject matter relating to pharmaceuticals, formulation science and synthetic chemistry, with particular experience in prosecuting patent applications relating to anticancer, antimicrobial and analgesic compositions, along with cannabinoids. She also works extensively in the agri-tech, food technology, advanced materials and medical device fields.

Jade’s patent practice encompasses the drafting and prosecution of patent applications, as well as providing patentability, validity and freedom to operate opinions, along with conducting due diligence and IP audits. She also very much enjoys conducting opposition and appeal work before the EPO. Jade is experienced in coordinating the filing and prosecution of large global patent portfolios as well as managing the European portfolios of large multinationals. Whilst her practice focusses primarily on patents, Jade is also comfortable handling design work.

Jade enjoys the variety of working with a wide range of clients from Universities, through start-ups and SMEs, to large multinational companies, and is experienced in tailoring her approach to the different needs and priorities of individual clients. She particularly enjoys assisting technology transfer departments with their early stage invention capture and protection strategies, as well as working with in-house counsel to achieve pragmatic and commercially valuable outcomes for their portfolios.
