Simon joined Greaves Brewster LLP in July 2014 to train as a patent attorney, assisting in patent drafting and prosecution. Having obtained a MChem honours degree in chemistry with industrial experience from Cardiff University in 2009, Simon went on to complete a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry at the University of Bristol. His research was focused on the total synthesis and determination of the biosynthetic pathway of a novel antibiotic.
Prior to joining the firm, Simon spent a short period working for a contract research SME, developing a novel method for recycling palladium catalysts in cross-coupling reactions. Working in this environment gave him a great insight into the opportunities and challenges experienced by SMEs, as well as into the commercial realities of conducting research in a private company.
